Match Report: Alex Damon (5-1, 1KO, Roxstars) vs Andres Cabrera (4-0, 1KO, SWAG)

Posted on December 13, 2020January 16, 2024

Defending champion Alex “The Demon” Damon entered the match with a record of 5-1 with one knockout. He had a career accuracy of 91.41%. This was his fifth championship match and fourth title defense. He represented the Roxstars.

Challenger Andres “Ace” Cabrera entered the match with a record of 4-0 with one knockout. He had a career accuracy of 87.21%. This was his first championship match. He was the winner of the 2020 Star Wars tournament. He represented SWAG.

First Round

Damon had a perfect first round and hit the bonus question, while Cabrera missed two questions. The two missed questions were:

Upon entering Jabba’s Palace, C-3PO is spooked by a spider-like droid carrying the brain of a monk from what order?
Cabrera’s Answer: BT-16
Correct Answer: B’omarr

Name the real-life swordmaster who cameos as Trey Callum, the Rebel officer who first sees an approaching Imperial Walker through his macrobinoculars while on Hoth and doubles for Darth Vader during the lightsaber duel on Bespin?
Cabrera’s Answer: David Prowse
Correct Answer: Bob Anderson

The score at the end of the first round was 11-8 for Damon.

Second Round

Damon deferred to Cabrera for the first spin. Cabrera spun The Empire Strikes Back but decided to spin again, and his second spin landed on Solo: A Star Wars Story. He went to multiple choice on the third question asked, but got every question correct, giving him nine of ten possible points.

Damon spun The Clone Wars first and decided to spin again, this time landing on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. He got every question correct without having to check down to multiple choice for ten out of ten possible points.

The score at the end of the second round was 21-17 for Damon.

Third Round

Damon spun Solo: A Star Wars Story for the category in the betting round. Damon answered correctly while Cabrera got the question wrong. The question was:

According to the opening text of Solo, what three things do Crime Syndicates fight for?
Cabrera’s Answer: Resources, Food, and Hyperfuel
Correct Answer: Food, Medicine, and Hyperfuel

Damon bet three points and answered correctly. Cabrera bet three points and answered incorrectly.

Cabrera challenged that his answer of Resources, Food, and Hyperfuel was correct. The challenge was denied as the text of Solo is specifically the three resources of Food, Medicine, and Hyperfuel.

The score at the end of the third round was 24-14 to Damon.

Fourth Round

Damon deferred to Cabrera again and so Cabrera went first. He missed only the last question, receiving eight of a possible ten points. When it was his turn, Damon also missed the last question, receiving eight of a possible ten points.

The question they both missed was:

In how many films in the Star Wars universe has Han Solo appeared?
Cabrera’s Answer: 5
Damon’s Answer: 5
Correct Answer: 6

At the end of the fourth round, the score was 32-22 for Damon, meaning Cabrera had to hit every question in the fifth round to tie the game and avoid a TKO.

Fifth Round

Cabrera’s two-point question was in the category Planets & Locations and he got it correct. However, he answered his three-point question in the category Solo: A Star Wars Story incorrectly. The question missed was:

Name the Order of Servants used by Dryden Vos that first appeared in Rogue One?
Cabrera’s Answer: Partisans
Correct Answer: The Decraniated

Damon won the match via TKO with a final score of 32-24.

Other Details

Cabrera answered 21 of the 27 questions he was asked correctly, giving him an accuracy of 77.78% for the match. His record in the Star Wars division is now 4-1. With his loss, SWAG could not make up the gap in points to KOrruption, thereby guaranteeing that KOrruption won the faction title. It is unknown when his next match will be.

Damon answered 25 of the 27 questions he was asked correctly, giving him an accuracy of 92.59% for the match. His record in the Star Wars division improved to 6-1. His victory via TKO earned the Roxstars six points, bringing their season total up to 46 and further solidifying their fourth-place standing.

Damon’s only loss remains his first match, a fatal five-way in December 2017. Every match he has competed in since has been either a number one contender match or a championship match, winning the belt against Bruce Greene at Collider Collison in July 2018. This was his fourth consecutive title defense, two short of the Schmoedown record (6, The Patriots).

He will next play Andrew Dimalanta, runner up of the 2020 Star Wars tournament. It was announced that Laura Kelly will play Mollie Damon in a number one contender match next season, and that Damon will then have the choice to defend against Dimalanta one-on-one or in a triple-threat match against Dimalanta and the winner of Kelly vs M. Damon.
