So today, we had a lot of things talked about in the Schmoedown. Ben Bateman talked about how the Barbarian is acting as a liaison for the Finstock Exchange, and even said that he has talked to the Barbarian as much or more than he has Tom Dagnino. There was also talk about rumors of different factions trying to acquire the number one draft pick, teams like the Finstock Exchange and even Shannon Barney may try to get it for Korruption. He also talked about how the Quirky Mercs were leaning towards keeping Kevin Smith.
Then the creator showed up: Kristian Harloff. Kristian talked a lot about the incoming rookies and who he liked with the managers in the Schmoedown, giving the managers the lowdown on who they may need to pick up. Then the announcements began to come, and they are as follows:
- The rulebook will be released to the public. $10+ patrons will receive it first and then it will go to the entire public a month later.
- Harloff then said he lovingly told our Fares Muthana to eat shit during last Friday’s Schmoedown Crackdown because Fares was right to say that Jeff Sneider could choose to sign with a different manager than his teammate Marc Andreyko, but if he did they would have to vacate the belts.
- He also talked about going to 8 teams, mainly because it was easier for tournaments.
- Merch is coming as well for the different factions.
- They have a goal to have a minor league as soon as this year. If he had it his way, the minor leagues would start in March but that isn’t likely.
- There will also be free agency again like last year, most likely in June. Plan is for the trade deadline to be August 1st.
- He talked about the way that the Droogs leaving the league would affected previously traded draft picks. Samm Levine will keep what he already has, therefore retaining the first round pick that he had traded away, and that Roxy Striar and her newly renamed team The Stars would receive an extra pick in the third round.
- Something big is the new points system. Singles/teams matches are worth two points. Innergeekdom/Star Wars matches are worth three points. Number one contenders matches are worth four points. Tournament matches are worth three points, with the finals worth four points. Title wins are worth seven points, and a title defense gains the winning faction an extra point. Being TKO’d means that your faction will lose a point, while being KO’d means that your faction will lose a point while the winning faction will also gain an extra point. Title matches at Spectacular will be worth ten points, and with bonuses, a title defense at Spectacular can be worth up to twelve points. Free 4 All winner will gain three points and the MVP one point. Triple threat championship matches are worth ten points, fatal four-way championship matches are worth twelve, and a five-way championship match would be worth fifteen points. Champions must agree to compete in three, four, or five-way championship matches.
- The singles number one contenders match is Dan Murrell vs Jeff Sneider.
- The names of the PPVs is Throwdown and the big one of the month will be Battlefield.
- The patrons will get first opportunities for merch.
- There is no more spoiler bans. It is going to be treated like a sport when it comes to news.
- The value of the championship matches is going way up and it makes the belts way more important.
- The Schmoedown is not a traditional sport, as per Harloff.
- The rulebook was sent to a legal team.
- There will be a timeout implemented for next season.
- William Bibbiani played a major role in developing the rules book.
- Then the Schmoeminati took out Harloff’s camera, but while that happened, he said that there is a potential for two Star Wars tournaments and two Innergeekdom tournaments next season.
- They were close to getting a theater to film matches in but with COVID right now, LA is a disaster.
- The year will start with singles, Innergeekdom, and Star Wars with hopes that they can start teams in April. He is trying to avoid five round matches digitally but if he has to do them he will, but most likely not live.
- He is also thinking of putting microphones on the managers next year.
A big day of announcements in the Schmoedown, and we’ll be recapping it all on Friday’s Schmoedown Crackdown.
