It’s safe to say that Season 7 has had its challenges. A global pandemic derailed studio tapings in March but the season was saved by figuring out how to do matches digitally. And while the digital format has had its hiccups, we ended up with some incredible matches this season. The season is about to wrap up with a sure-to-be amazing Schmoedown Spectacular V, and we are here to give our thoughts and predictions for each match.
Kevin “Good Enough” Smith (1-0) vs Brett “The Sniper” Sheridan (1-0)
Kevin Smith is a great director and his participation in the Schmoedown this season has been really exciting. From him signing with the Quirky Mercs in free agency to his match against Chris Jericho in August, having him as part of the league has been incredible. As he goes into his first Schmoedown Spectacular, he faces an opponent that I did not expect him to, and that is Brett Sheridan.
With a final score of 11-10, Sheridan’s match against Bonnie Somerville at the beginning of the season isn’t exactly memorable for their incredible knowledge and excellent gameplay. Still, at 1-0, Sheridan does have a record that is the same as Smith’s, and so on paper this is a good matchup for both of them. Matches aren’t played on paper, however, and Smith is a clear favorite in this one.
Predictions for Smith vs Sheridan:
Bidoor: Smith
Justin Hamilton: Smith
Fares Muthana: Smith
Sugeknight323: Smith
Colin Martinez (Producer): Smith
Adelia Chamberlain (Senior Community Manager): Smith
Daney Carvalho (Editing Supervisor): Smith
“Le Champion” Chris Jericho (0-1) vs Britney “Cherry Bomb” Young (0-1)
Chris Jericho and Britney Young are playing a match that in the past might have been considered a celebrity exhibition, but this time it is for faction points. Both the Roxstars and the Dungeon are out of the running for winning the faction title, but the Roxstars have a chance to overtake The Finstock Exchange for third place if results go manager Roxy Striar’s way. Part of that path to third place includes a win for Jericho over Young.
Jericho looked impressive in his match against Kevin Smith, losing in sudden death. Young looked good in her match earlier this year against Jader Paramo, and she had already proven her knowledge in the GLOW exhibition match in 2017. Based on those performances, I think it’s a little difficult to say if their knowledge levels are on a similar level, but the clash of the professional wrestler versus the woman who played one is something that I find very interesting and I look forward to seeing how this plays out.
Predictions for Jericho vs Young:
Bidoor: Jericho
Justin: Jericho
Fares: Jericho
Sugeknight323: Young
Colin: Young
Adelia: Young (gotta support the ladies)
Daney: Jericho
Alex Damon (5-1 [in Star Wars], current champion) vs Andres Cabrera (4-0)
The dominant champion vs the mighty challenger. Alex Damon versus Andres Cabrera has all the makings of an incredible match. Damon’s ability to go through matches without missing a question is undeniable, but Cabrera showed us on his way to winning this year’s Star Wars tournament that he has that ability as well.
If Damon retains the belt, it means that he would have won six straight matches in the Star Wars division, his fourth title defense since winning the belt at Collider Collision in July 2018. If Cabrera wins, he will end the reign of the reign of perhaps the most dominant champion in Schmoedown history. Will the fact that Damon hasn’t played a Star Wars match in a year come into play? We shall see.
Predictions for Damon vs Cabrera:
Bidoor: Damon
Justin: Damon
Fares: Damon
Sugeknight323: Damon
Colin: Damon
Adelia: Damon
Daney: Cabrera
Chandru “The Chosen” Dhandapani (5-2, current champion) vs “The Cobra” Chance Ellison (4-1 [in Innergeekdom])
Chandru Dhandapani is someone that rubs a lot of people the wrong way. His behavior during (and his reaction afterward) the match against Kevin Smets was one that, quite frankly, made a lot of people angry. He has gone from insisting that he wasn’t a heel to really leaning into the fact that he is. There are a lot of people who openly hate him now, but during this unconventional year, his character has been one of the best, at least to me.
Chance Ellison ran through the Innergeekdom tournament with relative ease, and his defeat of Mike Kalinowski in the tournament final was impressive. He was not really thought of as an Innergeekdom player before the tournament, but he has proven that he is a force to be reckoned with. Can he overcome Dhandapani and become champion or will Dhandapani be the first Innergeekdom champion to defend the belt since Jason Inman did it in 2018?
Predictions for Dhandapani vs Ellison:
Bidoor: Ellison
Justin: Ellison
Fares: Ellison
Sugeknight323: Ellison
Colin: Dhandapani
Adelia: Dhandapani
Daney: Ellison
Shazam [William “The Beast” Bibbiani & Brendan “The Kid” Meyer] (8-1, current champion) vs The Odd Couple [Marc “The Android” Andreyko & “The Insneider” Jeff Sneider] (9-4)
This is going to be a close one, I think. Shazam have been incredible as a team, with their only loss coming to the Founding Fathers at last year’s Schmoedown Spectacular IV. They worked their way through the mini-tournament held earlier this year to earn their title shot against then-champions KOrruption, and they won the belts in impressive style. This is their first attempt at defending their championship and we will see how they handle the pressure of the moment.
As for The Odd Couple, the former teams’ champions made their way through the teams’ tournament impressively. Their defeat of Final Exam in the tournament final made a statement about their intent on getting those belts back. It will be interesting to see how this match goes down.
Predictions for Shazam vs The Odd Couple:
Bidoor: Shazam
Justin: The Odd Couple
Fares: The Odd Couple
Sugeknight323: Shazam
Colin: Shazam
Adelia: Shazam
Daney: Shazam
“Dangerous” Dan Murrell (17-5, current champion) vs Adam “The Coyote” Collins (6-0)
This is the match that everyone is talking about. Can rookie sensation Adam Collins defeat the greatest player of all time, Dan Murrell? Murrell has had a great season in singles, winning the belt back from Ben Bateman in March before defending it twice against Ethan Erwin and Bateman in their second match against each other this season. There have been some really impressive pulls from him throughout those matches and he has shown why he is considered the greatest there has ever been.
Collins ran his way through the singles tournament, beating players like John Rocha, Brendan Meyer, and Jeff Sneider along the way. The performances have been beyond impressive and he has proven already that he is going to compete at the highest level of the Schmoedown that there is. Collins clearly deserves to be in the position he currently is, and I believe he has a great chance at dethroning Murrell. We shall see, however.
Predictions for Murrell vs Collins:
Bidoor: Collins
Justin: Murrell
Fares: Collins
Sugeknight323: Collins
Colin: Collins
Adelia: Murrell
Daney: Collins
So that’s it. That’s our prediction. What are yours? Comment on this post and let us know what you’re thinking! Enjoy Spectacular on Saturday. We certainly will.
You have a website and I’m just now hearing about it?
#RoxStars all of the way. Not watching it live mostly because I don’t need that stress, should be great.
Just launched the website today! It’s not entirely done but we wanted to get this Spectacular preview out there. Thanks for reading it and taking the time to comment.
My picks are the same as Colin. Best of luck to everyone with their picks, and certainly to all the competitors. Can’t wait for tomorrow.
I can’t wait for tomorrow either. It’s going to be a long, long day though.
My picks for tomorrow: Damon, Young, Chandru, Shazam!, Smith, Collins (I want Murrell to win though)
Sad that I won’t be able to watch all of it live, but will watch what I can. Great job Adelia! (Jericho is 0-1 btw)
Nice picks! Thanks for sharing them. (and thanks for the correction, Cory! I’ll get that fixed right now.)
