To say that The Den had a disappointing year would be an understatement. The promise of TOM and Paul Preston as a team never developed into match wins, the focus of the Innergeekdom tournament was more on who she chose to put into it instead of the results, and the only person from the faction to play at Schmoedown Spectacular V was Brett Sheridan playing the character of ZaFlertinFlouse. Manager Kate Mulligan ended the year by firing advisor Grace Hancock and dropping the rather annoying Chicago accent she’d been using all season.
Mulligan was a guest on our Schmoedown Spectacular V After Party, and she had a couple of interesting things to say about the future of The Den. First, she mentioned a potential trade between The Den and KOrruption that would be a way for KOrruption to retain Marisol McKee, as shown in this clip from the show.
Mulligan mentioned the offer that she had made Shannon Barney several times during her appearance on the show. She also made it very clear to everyone that if McKee enters the draft, there is a zero percent chance of McKee going back to KOrruption to play with Adam Collins, which is what McKee wants.
Mulligan also talked about whether or not she had decided upon three players from the season seven iteration of The Den to keep, and she had this to say:
From what Mulligan said, it sounds like not only Ben Goddard might be gone, but that everyone else on the faction isn’t guaranteed a spot within the three players she has to sign by the end of free agency. Due to this, we are under the impression that Mulligan won’t be retaining anyone from this iteration of The Den and will seek to find three free agents who were on other factions during season seven.
Whatever moves it is Mulligan decides to make, The Den is seemingly going to look drastically different next season. It will be interesting to see what direction she takes them in and whether or not that new direction can turn into a more successful season.
