Eric Rodriguez, known as Nerd Chronic, is the former editor of the Schmoedown. In addition to editing together the show, he created so many pre-match promo videos that got everyone hyped up for the matches to come. Here are his reflections on the show we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
Definitely the Shirewolves retirement event. Having to do 2 promos, one for the match and another for their farewell, was a really special experience for a lot of reasons.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
Rachel and Mara going into overtime. That’s one of the matches that got me invested as a fan in the first place.
Which match that you were personally involved with would you say is the best you ever watched?
All of them. Just kidding. Watching Damon vs Dimalanta was one that came to mind. Seeing it live, as it was being recorded, was nerve-wracking. The stress of just waiting for one of them to miss was unlike any other match.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
Spectacular 6. Being there in person, just as a fan was fantastic. It was the last great event the Schmoedown put on and I was happy to experience it in person without any stress about the work.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
Monumental and life-changing. Schmoedown came into my life at a time I needed a community and it welcomed me with open arms. And now I have a family of friends and loved ones who I’ll cherish forever.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
The camaraderie. The feeling of being in the trenches with everyone, studying, taking notes, doing drills, and strategy meetings. The friends and connections will live on in some fashion but the specific focus on trivia training will unfortunately be gone unless we maintain it just for fun. I will miss that type of dedication.
