Since entering the Schmoedown in 2019, Kaiser has been the manager of the Dungeon. He also competed in the 2019 Draft Bowl Triple Threat, the 2022 Free For All, and a couple of exhibition matches. Here are his reflections on the show that we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
2019 was Smasher Smets’ rookie season in the Movie Trivia Schmoedown. No moment could possibly top me managing my ole pal to a knockout over the great Mike Kalinowski to win the Innergeekdom Championship belt at Spectacular IV in downtown Los Angeles. Smash, Oyama, Zipper, and myself (aka Dungeon 1.0) were able to shake hands, joke around and take pictures with the best fans (and friends) in the world prior to the match. That makes the moment even sweeter.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
While he is responsible for some of my all favorite Schmoedown moments, Gucci locking Emma Fyffe in the janitor’s closet at Collider is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen a manager do to another manager. So I’ll go with that! Honorable mention goes to Andrew Ghai tackling Bateman through a coffee table. Ben is still picking splinters out of his ass.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
The 3-Way manager bowl between Fyffe – Gucci – Kaiser in Orlando was a riot! The energy of the live crowd booing the shit out of me as I walked down to the ring escorted by my bodyguard, Big John is certainly a moment to remember. Anytime that Dagnino and myself get to do battle and sling insults at each other it’s going to be the best match on the card.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
I’m a comedy nerd and I love the pageantry of the Schmoedown as much as the competition. Kevin Smith vs. Zaflertenflouse (no idea how to spell this psychopath’s name) was one of my favorite matches of all time. ‘Flouse’ – the alter ego of Brett Sheridan – is clearly one of the most unpredictable dudes in the league. You never know what’s going to come out of his mouth! So watching him go toe-to-toe with the icon Kevin Smith was pure entertainment.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
Shit, a thousand thoughts come to mind. The Odyssey that Kevin Smets and myself have been on: From shooting smack-talking promos about Jay Washington in his edit bay, all the way through him SMASHING cancer and getting his Innergeekdom belt back, has had a prolific impact on my life. Smash is a special human being and I’m damn lucky to call him family. Speaking of the friendships I’ve made – I’m looking at you Movie Guys, Dan Murrell, Mara Knopic, and Robert Parker – the Dungeon still plans on kicking your asses before seasons end. VideoDrew and I have been on an Odyssey as well, but I can’t talk about that as Mel Brooks made us sign an NDA until the biopic drops.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
Though I know that this isn’t the last time I work with him… being able to collaborate with Kristian Harloff on a regular basis in the Schmoedown is what I will miss most. Harloff is an exceptional promoter, comedian, and artist. We’ve been cracking each other up for over 20 years. He gets my voice and he gets my presence. Throw in Mark Ellis, and there are no two other people on this planet that inspire me more to be a better performer. Cue up ‘Dreams’ by Van Halen…
