During his Schmoedown career, “The Dealbreaker” Jacoby Bancroft competed in the singles and teams divisions. Drafted by Roxy Striar in the 2021 Schmoedown draft, he was a member of The Stars during Season 8: War. Here are his reflections on the show that we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
I haven’t been around for that long compared to most other competitors, but two things come to mind. The first is managing Jeannine in her match where she beat Dan Murrell. That was just a delight to be a part of and witness that firsthand. Sure, I was managing that match, but Jeannine didn’t need me that day. She rocked it all on her own and I was just so happy for her in that moment. The other moment I think of was filming my first scene with Reilly. I liked that because I knew Reilly was such a beloved player in this game and to see the fan reaction when he returned in such a goofy way was just incredible.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
Might be a copout, but I would say the entire Korruption Anarchy tournament? That was just the Schmoedown firing on all levels with a great blend of an interesting story, exciting new teams, and legitimate surprises.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
I don’t have the greatest record, but I think the best I’ve ever played was the Blackjack vs Deception match. Granted, we lost by… a lot. But play-wise, Jeannine and I kept our heads in and most importantly were having a ton of fun. The spirit of this game is supposed to be fun so even though we weren’t getting anywhere close to winning that day, it was rather a testament to positivity.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
As a fan, the best I ever saw was Shirewolves vs Who’s the Boss. That was just an incredibly tense match with two titan teams trading blows the entire time. But as a player there in studio, I would actually say the best match I saw was The Appointment vs. Top Dogs. Yes, that’s not a super important match in the grand scheme of things, but Harley has become a really good friend of mine and just to be there in studio and watch him unleash his awesome, slimy character work after studying with him for so long was a delight. Plus, that match is hilarious! Or just to add more answers, anything at last year’s Spectacular where I got to stand around with people and play along with every match.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
Schmoedown got me into online movie trivia. I found the Schmoedown and that led me to the fantastic online leagues where I met and befriended some incredible people all while continuing to get better and increasing my overall movie knowledge. Then of course that led to the Schmoedown where I continued to meet amazing people who I now consider really close friends. It’s helped me appreciate and watch more movies, while bolstering strong friendships. What else could you want out of anything?
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
I know a lot of people will miss playing the most, but hey, I lost a lot so I probably won’t miss that as much… but I will miss the people. I know the bonds will remain strong, but just because life gets in the way and we all go off to do separate things, I know I’ll ultimately talk to a lot of my Schmoedown friends less, which is a major bummer, but overall it’s about cherishing the good memories!
