“The Cobra” Chance Ellison is a former teams champion. He also competed in the singles and Innergeekdom divisions and was the winner of the 2020 Innergeekdom tournament. Here are his reflections on the show we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
I would have to say the first live show in NY. The fact that I was not only part of the show outside LA, but I basically got to kick off the season with my first singles win. It was an incredible experience.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
Probably seeing Mike win the IG belt for the first time. Just because I knew how hard he worked and how badly he wanted it, seeing him finally get to that point. I was so happy for my friend.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
That’s a tossup I would probably say it’s between my match against Lon, my first match against Parker, or the 4th match against the Founding Fathers. Because all of those are matches where I didn’t miss a question and just felt like I was firing aim all cylinders.
which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
I would say the first Kalinowski vs Smets match. Just for the twists and turns alone plus the ending. It’s one of the most competitive matches I’ve seen.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
it’s not an understatement to say the Schmoedown literally changed my life. It introduced me to so many places I had never been and people I never would’ve met otherwise. And it gave me a group of people that for the first time in a long time made me feel like I belong.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
I think the thing I’m gonna miss most is seeing a lot of these people as frequently as I have been. I used to always be so excited when it came time to go back to LA for another tape day. Just seeing everyone, talking movies, talking the game, throwing questions at each other. It was always a blast. And I’m sad I’m not gonna be able to do that anymore.
