During his Schmoedown career, Brother Lomis competed in the singles, teams, and Innergeekdom divisions. Drafted by Tom Dagnino in the 2021 Schmoedown draft, he was a member of the Finstock Exchange during Season 8: War. Here are his reflections on the show that we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
It was actually when I got the phone call from Harloff that I would be eligible for the draft. I sent in the audition just to say I did it and was not expecting a response. So when someone I had watched every week for a few years called me I was shocked.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
The most memorable I was not involved in was Rocha vs. Mantz the Bespin miss. That was when the Schmoedown went from a YouTube thing I liked to my favorite show period.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
My best performance was against Klee simply because it was the only time I played the game the way I should have. I went into it purely for fun with no pressure. I had been preparing for IG matches only since January. I didn’t even think I was playing singles this year. So when I got the match about a week or maybe two ahead of time I was pretty certain I would lose and didn’t stress over it. It was also my first live match that wasn’t connected to any storylines. So everything in the interviews was completely improved at the moment and I just played the match freely and weirdly and that made me happy. It also bookended my career nicely it started with missed 5 to lose and ended with a hit 5 to win.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
Marisol vs. Samm. I got to watch it live and two players going perfect is still mind-blowing.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
I had not done anything creative in many years when I joined so it was surprising I even auditioned. And it woke that piece of me back up and I am grateful. But more than that the 2021 Exchange became an important group in my life. I still talk to a lot of them regularly and consider them close friends.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
Being a part of this odd group of weirdos who do this unique thing and bonding with them because we are the only ones insane enough to do it.
