Alex “The Demon” Damon is a former Star Wars champion who also competed in the Innergeekdom division. Drafted by Roxy Striar in the 2020 Schmoedown draft, he was a founding member of The Stars. Here are his reflections on the show that we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
In the match with Sam Witwer I was asked the name of Obi-Wan’s droid, R4-P17. Mollie tested me on that one a LOT while we prepped, and when I get asked the question you can see my eyes shoot up to look at her. You can also see me look over at her during my match with Laura when I’m asked how many horns are on Darth Maul’s head. I loved getting asked things Mollie made sure I knew and watching myself looking over at her as a silent “Thank you” always makes me happy.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
Kevin Smets’s return brought me to tears. It’s hard to beat that.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
Even though I lost it’s gotta be the match against Andrew Dimalanta. 50 points? I never hit that in any other match.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
First one that comes to mind is Cushing vs Knopic when they were both feeling rough and went into overtime and just kept on plugging away.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
The lasting impact is the friends I’ve made. Being able to meet SO many like-minded people in the movie space…friends I am able to text and share my excitement with over almost any fandom. It’s a blast.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
Meeting with those friends in person to either compete or cheer them on. Having an “excuse” to fly out to LA and visit. It’s been awesome.
