Adam “The Coyote” Collins is a former singles champion and the winner of the 2020 Ultimate Schmoedown Singles Tournament. He also competed in the teams and Innergeekdom divisions. Signed as a free agent by Shannon Barney in 2020 Schmoedown Free Agency, he was a member of KOrruption during Season 7: The New Era and Season 8: War, and a member of SWAG during Season 9: Reboot. Here are his reflections on the show we all love, in his own words.
Looking back on the Schmoedown, what is the most memorable moment that you were personally involved in?
My most memorable moment was off camera. It happened when Dan Murrell reached out to me after I won the belt. He shared some kind words about the match, but what stuck with me the most was him saying, “You’re a champion now no matter what happens next, and nobody can take that away from you. It’s a very exclusive club and you’re a member now.” Having been a longtime fan of Dan’s, that exchange will always mean a great deal to me.
What is the most memorable moment that you were not involved in?
The most memorable moment I was not involved in (on camera at least) was Marisol beating Ethan for the belt. I cried tears of joy that day watching her win. I can’t say enough so I’ll keep it brief and say I knew Marisol would win. Getting to scream “Hell yeah!” during her post-match interview with Jenn said it all.
Which of your matches would you say is the best you played?
Of my matches, I’d say it’s a tie between Collins vs. Meyer 1 and Collins vs. Murrell 1. Both went to Sudden Death and came down to a single question. That’s as competitive as it gets, and Brendan and Dan are two of the all-time greats so going that deep against them was thrilling.
Which match that didn’t involve you would you say is the best you ever saw?
It might be a little recency weighing in, but I still can’t get over Marisol vs. Samm. Both played 100% perfect. Only the speed round separated the score. Impeccable gameplay on both sides. For an older match, I’d say Rachel vs. Mike when she won the IG title in Sudden Death. I screamed.
How would you describe the Schmoedown’s impact on you?
The Schmoedown’s impact on me is immeasurable. I’ve made friends for life and earned the respect of idols of mine who’ve become peers. It’s been incredible.
What will you miss most about the Schmoedown?
I’ll miss the live events and the studio shoots in LA because getting to be around everybody in person is what I’ve always loved the most about it. I’ll also miss the raw competition of it all. For movie nerds, this is our gladiator arena and it’s thrilling as hell when you’re in the thick of it. I’ll miss it all very much.
