Movie Review: Sick (2022)

Posted on January 24, 2024January 2, 2025

Sick is a 2022 slasher film. It was directed by John Hyams and written by Kevin Williamson and Katelyn Crabb. The film stars Gideon Adlon, Beth Million, and Dylan Sprayberry.

Synopsis: As the pandemic steadily brings the world to a halt, Parker and her best friend Miri decide to quarantine at the family lake house alone–or so they think.

Rating: R (Strong violence, some drug use, language throughout, terror)

Streaming: Peacock

Rotten Tomatoes:

Sick is a movie set in the pandemic times, and is obviously a slasher movie, which is actually a great premise because of everyone being quarantined and alone. It also shows us how we act in a scary time being afraid of a virus, so much that we change our entire lives around it. Like having to wear masks kind of hides who we are in public, is that who I think it is or is that someone else? Wiping down packages after buying them from the store, did people really do that?

Even the different rules we set for ourselves, like on the drive to the lake house, the one girl stresses about the mask on the car ride but takes it off at the house while still being close to her friend. And they played this smart because the ex shows up and he has a plan when they realize someone is in the house. And a damn smart way to get them back in the house. This was super great and something that is special to see in horror, very thought out. Not just things happening to happen.

I don’t even want to ruin it for you guys but damn the twist of two killers. And they smart way they do it. Also the play dead scene is actually terrifying just imagine being there at that moment. The pain they actually show from being wounded is another great touch. There were only a couple of moments I felt that they actually did things to set up a surprise like them walking away from the mother at the end after only pushing her out a glass door.

Great movie and it’s only like one hour and 17 minutes of your time. This one is a solid 8.5 out of 10 on the Hambone meter. If you like horror, you need to see this one.
