Movie Trivia Schmoedown Chairman Kristian Harloff joined Call to Action’s Chill to Action show on Sunday to answer some questions about the Schmoedown, and here’s some of what we learned.
- Wednesday matches will stay digital even when they are able to have studio matches again.
- The minor leagues need a budget because he won’t be running it and the current writing team wouldn’t be working on questions for it.
- The concept of the minor leagues is to have a massive open for each Schmoedown division that ends around September or October and the winner in each division will have a guaranteed draft spot. There could also be players who steamroll the competition and are signed in free agency.
- He believes that there are enough players that won’t get drafted to fill the minor leagues.
- Minor leagues will also be used for honing a competitor’s character as well as their trivia skills.
- There will be rules next season about trading draft picks, but it was too late in the offseason process to take the Usual Suspects’ first-round pick away from Samm Levine.
- The Free For All will be truly random and not have Harloff making decisions upon where people would enter.
- The Horror Free For All proved that they can do free for alls digitally and they will likely do so.
- They are changing the Podcast of the Year awards category to Best Schmoedown Media so that people who do not make podcasts can qualify for the award.
- There might be a Best Schmoedown Podcast award created specifically for competitors’ podcasts.
- Harloff does not want competitors to be reactors because it will get awkward since they may have inside information that the non-competitors would not.
- There will be non-title teams matches in March and April even if they aren’t in studio.
- The longest Harloff will stall to have Odd Couple defend the teams’ championship is May.
- Harloff originally did not want to release the rulebook because it wasn’t copyrighted, but now it’s gone through legal so he can sue if somebody creates a popular league with the same rules.
- The rulebook gets rid of the 1 word/2 word answer rule, so “Surrogates” and “The Surrogates” will now both be considered correct answers as long as there is not a film with the other title.
- Harloff basically said that the rules will be more lenient but there will be competitors who will still use challenges in a strategic manner.
- Extended editions of films such as the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League will now be included in Innergeekdom.
- Harloff still doesn’t want to have an award for behind the scenes people.
Some interesting stuff in there. Can’t wait to see how it all works out.
Many thanks to ASG for compiling this list for us.
