Match Report: Liz Shannon Miller (6-3, 2KO, The Usual Suspects) vs John Rocha (15-11, 4KO, The Finstock Exchange)

Posted on March 26, 2021January 16, 2024

“Lightning” Liz Shannon Miller entered the match with a singles record of 6-3. Her career accuracy was 75.36%. She represented The Usual Suspects.

John “The Outlaw” Rocha entered the match with a singles record of 15-11. His career accuracy was 75.25%. He represented The Finstock Exchange.

First Round

Both competitors answered eight out of the eight questions correctly for a total of eight points. They also both answered the bonus question correctly for another point.

The score at the end of the first round was 9-9.

Second Round

Miller deferred so Rocha spun first. He got Romantic Comedies, decided to spin again, and spun Spinner’s Choice.  He chose Sports, answered four out of four questions correctly, and earned eight out of a possible eight points.

Miller spun Spinner’s Choice and chose Dreamworks Animation.  She went to multiple-choice twice, answered two out of four questions correctly, and earned four out of a possible eight points.

Rocha was able to steal one of Miller’s misses for 1 point.

The missed questions were:

Steve Martin and Martin Short are supporting performances in what 1990s Dreamworks film?
Multiple Choice: A) The Prince of Egypt B) The Road to El Dorado C) Antz D) Chicken Run
Miller’s Answer: C) Antz
Rocha’s Answer: A) The Prince of Egypt
Correct Answer: A) The Prince of Egypt

Which 2010s Dreamworks film has a main villain named Lord Shen, who uses gunpowder and weapons for nefarious purposes?
Initially accepted as Miller’s Answer: Kung Fu Panda 2
Correct Answer: Kung Fu Panda 2

On question number 3, Miller first gave an answer of Kung Fu Panda 3 before being asked to repeat her answer and then said Kung Fu Panda 2, which was confirmed by Mark Ellis to be the correct answer. Rocha challenged that she changed her answer and the challenge was upheld. In the interest of fairness, because the answer of Kung Fu Panda 2 had been confirmed as correct, Rocha was given a new question worth two points and no ability to check down to multiple-choice. He got it incorrect.

The new question was:

Who voices Oscar, a comical streetwise bluestreak cleaner wrasse, who works in the Whale Wash in Shark Tale?
Rocha’s Answer: Chris Rock
Correct Answer: Will Smith

The score at the end of the second round was 18-13 to Rocha.
