Match Report: Chandru Dhandapani (5-2, 3KO, S.W.A.G.) vs Chance Ellison (4-1, KOrruption)

Defending champion Chandru “The Chosen” Dhandapani entered the match with a record of 5-2 with three knockouts. He had a career accuracy of 86.23%. This was his second championship match and first title defense. He represented S.W.A.G.

Challenger “The Cobra” Chance Ellison entered the match with a record of 4-1. He had a career accuracy in Innergeekdom of 87.85%. This was his first Innergeekdom championship match. He was the winner of the 2020 Innergeekdom tournament. He represented KOrruption.

First Round

Dhandapani missed the last two questions and earned eight out of a possible ten points. Ellison missed five questions and earned five out of ten points. The missed questions were:

Ellison’s Answer: No Answer

The score at the end of the first round was 8-5 Dhandapani.

Second Round

Dhandapani decided to spin first. He spun Heroes & Villains and decided to spin again, but it landed on Heroes & Villains again. He went to multiple choice on two questions but did not get any question wrong, and earned eight out of ten possible points.

Ellison spun DCEU and stuck with it. He went to multiple choice on two questions and answered one question incorrectly. Dhandapani was able to steal Ellison’s miss for a gain of one point. Ellison earned seven out of a possible ten points. The question he missed was:

Ellison’s Answer: Mother Teresa
Correct Answer: Eleanor Roosevelt

Dhandapani challenged Ellison’s answer of “home” on question , saying that it should be “farm”, but he lost the challenge.

The score at the end of the second round was 17-12 for Dhandapani.

Third Round

Dhandapani spun Wizarding World for the category. He bet two points and got the question correct. Ellison bet two points and got the question correct.

The score at the end of the third round was 19-14 to Dhandapani.

Fourth Round

Dhandapani deferred to Ellison to go first. Ellison got nine questions correct and did not answer the tenth, earning nine points.

Dhandapani got nine questions correct and did not answer the tenth question, earning nine points.

The score at the end of the fourth round was 28-23 to Dhandapani.

Fifth Round

Ellison went first. His two-point question was in the category Mixed Bag and he answered correctly. His three-point question was in the category Star Wars and he got the question right to avoid a TKO.

Dhandapani had to answer his two-point question next. It was in the category Marvel and he answered correctly.

Ellison then had to hit his five-point question. It was in the category Who Said It? and he missed the question. The missed question was:

In what comic film will you find the following exchange: “Good thing these guys aren’t lumberjacks!” “No joke! The only thing safe in the woods would be trees!”
Ellison’s Answer: Kick-Ass
Correct Answer: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Dhandapani won the match with a final score of 30-28 and retained the championship.

Other Details

Ellison answered 21 of the 28 questions he was asked correctly, giving him an accuracy of 75% for the match. His record in Innergeekdom is now 4-2. It is unknown when his next match will be.

Including steal opportunities, Dhandapani answered 25 of the 27 questions he was asked correctly, giving him an accuracy of 92.6% for the match. His record is now 6-2. SWAG earned five points from Dhandapani’s win, guaranteeing a second place finish with sixty points.

Dhandapani is the first Innergeekdom champion to defend the title since Jason Inman in 2018. He will defend the title against Mara Knopic in 2021.
