Let’s Get Ready Network started as a Movie Trivia Schmoedown podcast in early 2020 just as the COVID-19 pandemic was getting bad. We were a group who had met through live chats, hangouts with Schmoedown competitors, and Discord channels. None of us lived anywhere close to one another, and we still don’t, so the channel has always been virtual. The prospect of someday meeting one another in person seemed far away, and in some cases, perhaps impossible.
When it was announced that the Schmoedown Spectacular would be live at the Globe Theater in Los Angeles in December 2021, Justin and Caleb made plans to go, and then I got invited to come out for the show by VIDEODREW. I was incredibly nervous to travel because I’d never been on a plane before and hadn’t left the city limits in over two years, but I was excited.
There was a party happening at a place called Residuals Tavern the night that I got there, and it was a little overwhelming at first because there were a lot of people there. I got to hug Bidoor, who was part of LGRN at the time, which is something I’d never thought would happen as she lived in Kuwait. I got to meet some of the competitors like Adam Collins and Marisol McKee, and other people in the community as well. But then I noticed that Justin was walking up outside, so I made my way out there to meet my favorite Alabamian.
Justin is genuine, exactly the same way in person as he is on a stream, and I was instantly comfortable in his presence. I met Brandi that night too, and we spent a lot of time together throughout that weekend. I didn’t really get to hang out with Caleb until the concert at the Mint (where the GIF of Justin “dancing” that appeared in last week’s newsletter came from), but it was great to meet him too.
After that, I was determined that someday I would get to meet everyone who was part of LGRN. And after a very special trip to Arizona, now I have met everyone but our graphics guru Alex. Snark and Fares both made that Tucson trip, and of course, it was absolutely incredible to not only finally meet Daney after all these years but also witness his wedding to Star. We got to do a live stream from our AirBnB, too, which was a lot of fun!
Being part of LGRN has taught me that true friendships can be made at any age, and I am glad that I am surrounded by these people. They are more than just friends now, they are family, and getting to do LGRN with them is something that I hope continues for a very long time.

Hambone’s Words of Wisdom: Tribalism: Why is it Here and So Broad?
Tribalism used to not be so bad because it was mostly done in the sports world. People being fans of a team no matter what the situation. That is what it was. Just the ‘I am rooting for this team and you root for the other team so today as our teams play we are enemies, in fact, the worst of enemies.’ But after a few hours, the game is over and after a few minutes, you’re friends again. It is fun in a way and it is fun having that beer afterwards as you talk about the events. It went wrong though. We let it seep into other things in our lives like politics and even now our entertainment.

Between The Lines with DWeezy: Bet it to the Limit
Sportsbooks often take measures to limit risk and exposure in the markets offered to sports bettors. One of those measures is to limit the maximum amount of money a sports bettor can place on a specific bet. Anyone who has spent a reasonable amount of time in a casino or sportsbook has likely heard or seen this in action. Take a blackjack table for example, typically, a player can bet raise or lower the amount they wish to wager per hand, but there is a minimum threshold that must be met. For the common person, this is usually $5 or $10 a hand, meaning a player can’t bet less than that each hand, and can bet more than that if they wish. We have likely all heard stories about a person wagering larger amounts of money, whether that be at a blackjack table, or in the sportsbook. When it comes to table games such as blackjack, there is not only a minimum but a maximum amount that can be wagered per hand. For those looking to wager larger amounts, say $100 or $500 per hand or higher, it often requires playing at a table with a higher minimum bet threshold that must be met per hand, and there is a reason for this.

Getting to Know…Adelia Chamberlain
This week, we had Snark ask Adelia Chamberlain five questions to get to know her better.
Snark: Sakic or MacKinnon?
Adelia: I love Nathan MacKinnon. I am so glad that he is on my team as opposed to somewhere else. But Joe Sakic is Joe Sakic. He helped ignite my love of hockey when the Avs moved to Denver, got us two Stanley Cups as a player, then became the GM and helped put together the team that won another. Until Nate can do anything like that, the answer to this question will always be Joe.
Snark: Favorite Buffy villain?
Adelia: First off, I’m not counting Spike in this because for reasons I can’t state in this since Fares might read it. And since I haven’t seen all of the later seasons yet, I’m going to say the Mayor from Season 3. Season 3 is my favorite season, and the Mayor and everything that goes down with him at the end is perfection.
Snark: If you were German, do you think you’d be into David Hasselhoff?
Adelia: I may not be German, but I have German ancestry on both sides of my family. Still, the answer to this is a very definitive no.
Snark: Favorite podcasting moment?
Adelia: Oh this is tough. I’m really not sure I could pick out one favorite moment. Probably the most memorable moment is when, having never been on a livestream before, I told Justin I’d hop on to start Schmoedown Crackdown with him, and then his internet cut out, leaving me there by myself with no idea what to do, but that definitely wasn’t my favorite. More recently, I’d say being there for Justin’s vacation announcement suddenly becoming the Love Tour was a lot of fun.
Snark: Who would be a better pole vaulter, Fares or Abe Lincoln?
Adelia: I know nothing about pole vaulting, but I think that if someone was tall, it might be harder to get your whole body over the bar without knocking it down, and at 6’4″, I think Lincoln would struggle to do that. So, um, Fares I guess?
