It’s Super Bowl Sunday here in the USA, and that always brings up the question of how we should cover the event. This year, we’re doing a watchalong of it on the LGRN – Sports YouTube channel and our Twitch channel, and then Fares and Caleb will follow up with a Super Bowl recap as part of the next episode of Good Friends, Better Rivals.
Covering the Super Bowl isn’t anything new to LGRN. Our coverage for the NFL’s championship game first started back in 2021 on a special episode of the old Highlights Sports Show, almost two years before we separated the sports content off the main channel and onto its own. That Super Bowl preview in 2021 was pretty chaotic with guests, so our coverage has streamlined since then, and I dare say gotten much better.
We’ve done watchalongs for the Super Bowl for the past several years, and in 2023, we also bookended the watchalong with live episodes of Good Friends, Better Rivals. But when you combine the length of the Super Bowl watchalong with an hour pre-game and an hour post-game, we came to the conclusion that was just too much for one day. The brunt of that fell on Fares, who did the pre-game, watchalong, and post-game that year. Afterwards, we all pretty much came to the conclusion to not do that again.
The watchalongs bring lots of fun moments, whether it’s reacting to stupid commercials, getting excited by the movie trailers, or dancing along to the halftime show. This year, Kendrick Lamar will be performing, and it will be interesting to see what kind of reactions his performance gets. A GIF or twenty-two may have been made of Fares vibing along to the Rihanna performance a couple years ago. Will there be any GIFable moments this year? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Between The Lines with DWeezy: Miami Vices
The tumultuous year that has been the 2024-25 NBA season for the Miami Heat revealed another chapter in its saga. In a season that has seen the team’s relationship with superstar player Jimmy Butler devolve to the point suspensions have been levied against the player, yet again a Miami Heat player dominated the headlines. In a story initially reported by The Wall Street Journal, it was reported that Terry Rozier was under investigation by the U.S. District Attorney for unusual betting patterns that surrounded a game of his in 2023. At the time, Rozier was a member of the Charlotte Hornets, and the game in question doesn’t come without a dash of irregularity. In March of 2023, Rozier would play only a handful of minutes in a game before being shut down not only for the rest of the game, but the season as well with a foot injury. The game was flagged by the U.S. Integrity, a firm that monitors for suspicious betting patterns, working with sportsbooks, and the government. Props for Rozier were pulled at many sportsbooks across the nation after unusual betting activity on the under bet for Rozier’s props in the game.
