After a very brief retirement this offseason, which was one of the biggest stories in one of the craziest off-seasons ever, the G.O.A.T. is back as quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at least for one more Super Bowl run. They have a new head coach in Todd Bowles, being upgraded from his defensive coordinator position as the former head coach Bruce Arians moves to the front office. I think any issues or conflicts with the way Brady likes to do things go with Arians as Todd Bowles will be focused on defense and will let Brady do his thing on offense. Unlike last year they were not able to just sign all the players from the previous super bowl year as they did lose some pieces such as Gronk and Suh. But I think they were able to add some really nice veterans to help Tom by reuniting him with offensive linemen Shaq Mason which should solidify his protection as well as added to his weapons by getting Russell Gage and Julio Jones to go along with an already stacked receiving corps that has Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. The Bucs have the biggest favorites to win their division in the entire NFL at -300. This is simply because this is a pretty bad division the other teams are not close to competing with the Bucs which makes them the clearest bet to win the NFC South and would have no problem having to lay the $300 to win a $100 because that’s how much confidence I have in them and how much doubt I have for the rest of the teams. I think with Tom Brady wanting to go out on top they are primed to win a lot of wins this season and would have no problem hitting the over 11.5 games as they won 13 last year.

The New Orleans Saints lost some big pieces this offseason none bigger than their longtime Super Bowl-winning head coach Sean Payton. Along with that, another loss is a major staple on their offensive line in Terron Armstead, which is not good for a quarterback who is coming off an injury. I don’t think they filled their holes in the secondary after losing Marus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins. But replacing Sean Payton will be their biggest challenge. That task has fallen on their newly promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen. I believe this hire will not turn out well for the Saints as I don’t feel Allen is a very good head coach as he was just 8-28 in 3 seasons as head coach of the Raiders. Having a defensive coach with a quarterback like Jameis Winston is a mistake because he is a guy that makes a ton of mistakes like throwing 30 picks in a season. An offensive guy like Payton that will always be in his ear would have been a much better fit. I don’t think much of Winston as a quarterback because I think he makes bad decisions on and off the field and doesn’t feel he has the right presence to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. I also don’t know what his weapons are going to look like this season as I haven’t seen WR Michael Thomas in 2 seasons as well as not sure if Alvin Kamara will face a suspension after his altercation in Vegas at the pro bowl. On top of all that the Saints will be facing the 7th toughest strength of schedule in the league which does not bode well for a team with so much uncertainty. I don’t like them to be even close to competing for the division or winning very many games with this current QB-Coach combination.

Things were looking up as the Carolina Panthers started 3-0 in the 2021 season but as injuries mounted the biggest one being too Christian McCaffery the Panthers struggled a ton and were only able to win just 2 games the rest of the year. With all the struggles that came last season, there was much turnover in the offseason with the Panthers’ roster. A big story was Deshaun Watson going to the Browns which left quarterback Baker Mayfield without a spot, leading to the Panthers trading for him to go along with Sam Darnold and rookie Matt Corral. I don’t know how much better Mayfield is than Darnold. I think they both have their strengths and weaknesses with Mayfield being more accurate and Darnold with a better arm but more reckless. But no matter who wins this starting spot I don’t think that is the driving force of this team as I think health is a major factor, particularly their standout running back Christian McCaffery who, when he was healthy, led them to that 3-0 start last season and went downhill after that. If they can lean on the run game with Christian McCaffery and Chubba Hubbard in the backfield I think that can hide some of the flaws at the quarterback position because Baker did pretty well when he was able to lean on his run game in Cleveland and was able to go to the playoffs and win a playoff game. Another thing they can lean on is their defense as they were 2nd in total defense as they get back guys like their young corner Jaycee Horn back from injury. The biggest fault with this team has been their terrible offensive line as they addressed that in free agency with Austin Corbett and in the draft with Ickey Ekwonu. If they can keep the quarterback upright then I believe they can win some games this season. The over/number is very low at 5.5 which I think is a very good value and really like the over. I believe they play in a conference that is not very good as a whole which will have the Panthers in the playoffs even if they win 8 or 9 games this season.

This is what a full rebuild looks like as the Atlanta Falcons have lost a lot of players in the offseason none bigger than their long-time former MVP quarterback Matt Ryan. That is a major blow to this offense but along with Ryan both of his top receivers will not be there for the 2022 season in Russell Gage leaving in free agency and Calvin Ridley being suspended for the entire year for gambling. The last man standing is TE Kyle Pitts with newly acquired quarterback Marcus Mariota. I think Mariota is a decent quarterback but not one who is good enough to overcome such a deficit of offensive weapons he doesn’t even have a decent run game to lean on either. He has a losing record for his career as well as a completion percentage in the low 60s with not a lot of yards or touchdowns. Mariota was their consolation as they tried and failed to get Deshaun Watson. I believe he is there while this team goes through a transition whether they think Ridder is the future or they draft someone else. The Falcons were bad on offense last season with an offensive head coach in Arthur Smith as they were ranked 29th in total offense. This poses the question if he is the right guy to lead this team as it is in a rebuilding period. Their defense isn’t much better as they were ranked 26th in total defense. I don’t see much hope for this team this season and do not see them winning a lot of games as they will probably be one of the worst teams in the NFL even in a soft conference.
