Issue #005 | February 23, 2025
LGRN began as the Let’s Get Ready Podcast at the end of March 2020, and by mid-May, we changed the name to the Let’s Get Ready to Talk Schmoedown Podcast. Our initial intro and graphics weren’t the highest quality, but they were sufficient to get us started.

We were fortunate to have Alex Arbogast come on board as our graphics designer in May 2020, and in June, Daney Carvalho joined us as our lead editor and brand designer. Between the two of them, we ended up with videos and graphics that made us look a lot more professional. In my opinion, this is when things really started coming together.

By October 2020, we decided we wanted to do more than just talk about the Schmoedown, and on January 1, 2021, we rebranded as Let’s Get Ready Network. We had renamed the Let’s Get Ready to Talk Schmoedown Podcast to Schmoedown Crackdown, but 2021 saw us add new shows to the network, like The Gold Standard and LGR Reviews in March, and Any Given Schmoeday in July.

To help pay Daney and Alex for their hard work, we launched a Patreon in July 2021, and we are incredibly grateful to those who chose to support the channel financially. The funds we received from Patreon allowed us to grow, and by the end of 2022, we decided to move our sports content to another channel, known then as The Highlights (now LGRN – Sports, as documented in Issue #002 of this newsletter). We also added Entertainment News Break on the entertainment channel, for which Daney made an awesome new intro. ENB became our main show on that channel after the announcement that the Schmoedown was ending.

We’ve added and ended shows since then, but all of our decisions are focused on what’s best for the channel. When Patreon made some decisions about fees that didn’t sit right with us, we left that platform for Ko-Fi, and we sincerely appreciate those of you who made the journey over there with us.
We’ve also made the switch from Streamyard to Evmux recently for the process of creating our streams, and while there are a few growing pains, we like the platform a lot better than Streamyard so far. So if you notice a long pause between the intro and the show starting, please be patient as we adjust to new keybinds and ways of doing things.
More recently, Daney has been working on animated backgrounds and redesigned intros and credits for all of our shows, featuring the new channel logos that were designed by Alex. You may have noticed some changes to The Post Credits or Re-Watcher’s Council intros, but the first official show featuring the new logo on the intro, background, and credits will be LGRN After Snark. Daney did an incredible job on them.

The visual style of LGRN will continue to improve as the years go on, but it’s fun to look back on the past and see the evolution.

Between The Lines with DWeezy: Sweep the Leg
A long-standing issue within many states that have already legalized sports gambling is the question, “How to deal with sweepstakes games?” Prize Picks, Underdog, and Kalshi’s are just a few of the many companies out there that offer wagering on a variety of sports outcomes and other events. On the surface, even to someone inexperienced in the sports gambling world, it’s clear what is being offered by these companies. To put it simply, the product being offered by these companies and others like them is sports gambling. People are allowed to make wagers on a player or team going over or under a number set by the company. These companies are utilizing “legal acrobatics,” as stated by Bill Miller, chief executive of the American Gaming Association, an advocate for regulated and responsible gambling across the industry by both gamblers and operators alike.
